New book possiblity: About my Life and the Kept Woman by John Rechy. He is an L.A. writer whose book City of Night was an influential outsider novel of the 1960s.

It is my opinion that we all identify a little with the outlaw story. We've all made and continue to make life choices that are not what many people consider correct. I think there is not much room in our culture for the outlaw woman.
