1. "Loving Frank" by Nancy Horan. 384 pages. Looks good but not in paperback yet & in demand at the library. Put on the save list, perhaps? Cari & I voted it "best title."
2. "Friday Night Knitting Club" by Kate Jacobs. Also 384 pages. Just out in paperback. Jenn M brought this to the discussion b/c the author is a client of Reuben's. (My apologies if I'm mixing this up.) She will be a t Vromans at there was an idea of seeing if she could speak to us. The book has gotten okay reviews.
3. "The World Without Us" by Alan Weisman. 336 pages. This is one I'm really wanting to read but it's still in hardcover. Possibly paperback in April.
4. "The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger. 560 pages. It's in paperback but long.
5. "The Emperor's Children" by Claire Messud. 496 pages. Also in paperback but long.
6. "Run" by Ann Patchett. 304 pages. Not in paperback yet.

Book Club Tonight: 7:00 @ Coffee Table
A little reminder about tonight. "A Long Way Down" is still on deck for next month. Please also find attached some notes from a friend of Paula S. Many we have considered and/or read, but I'm interested to find out more about the Philip Roth books.
Here's the info:
well the Yiddish Policeman's etc is by Micharl Chabon who is absolutely one of my favorite authors, Marlea's too. He wrote that terrific The Adventures Of Cavalier and Clay, one of the greatest books ever. If you haven't read that (he won the Pulitzer for it) you completely must. Really. It is one of those books I've read two times and bits of it more than that. I only wish I could read it again for the first time. But I must say I have not read the one you mentioned though it is on my very short list of stuff I must read. I am a bit behind the newest novels. Lately I have been rereading my favorites from childhood. Crazy but I just reread A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and cried and laughed more than I did the first time. What a great novel! The epitome of the coming of age stories.
I also just read Pray Eat Love which is non fiction but very good, inspiring kind of good. I am going to look around my room and come up with more titles. But again I tell you...The Adventures of Cavalier and Clay...WOW. Oh, Philip ROth's The Plot Againt the America is very good. Also his The Human Stain if you want something oh so dark. But Grand.
Of course, if you haven't read Middlesex or The Kite Runner (his A Thousand Splendid Suns is hot right now but certainly not as deep as The Kite Runner though it is beautiful and simple and takes you into a woman's life behind the Burka) or Atonement (there is a movie of it coming out still the book is beautiful - he is a great writer) you must read those.
I recently read the best seller The Emporer's Children. I read it on the Hong Kong trip. I didn't know it was a best seller as I found it in one of my rooms in Bali. But I liked it. I couldn't put it down as I read it but I kind of forgot it right away am now thinking about it for the first time since I read it.
Water for Elephants is what i am reading now.
Thank you, Paula, for the info! We'll get you posting soon. :)
